What are Best Management Practices
Best Management Practices (BMPs) are a type of water pollution control. BMPs can be "things" such as a constructed rain garden or a rain barrel. BMPs can also be "processes or behaviors" such as leaving existing vegetation around waterbodies alone. BMPs are often referred to as the actual tools in the toolbox to protect water quality.
Residential Best Management Practices (BMPs)
The following BMPs are most typical of residential home sites, although most can apply to non-residential sites as well. Click on the blue BMP names and a separate page with additional information will pop-up (look for more BMP info to be added).

Non-Residential BMPs
The following BMPs are typical of commercial projects and urban redevelopment. As noted above many of the residential BMPs can also be applied to non-residential projects.
Tree Wells & Planter Boxes
Inverted Landscape Islands
Bioswales (basically a super-sized rain garden)
Pervious Drainage Swales & Ditch Blocks
Pervious Pavers
